Loved reading your views, love that Paris doesn’t change. I had my first baby there, like you… but in 2003, and I was recalling the ‘coming home from hospital’ dilemma in much the same way. And the metro. We walked, we bussed, we explored… ahhh la liberté! ❤️
Great article. You didn't even mention the benefits of bilingualism. As much as French immersion programs might be found in the US (or Canada), I'm guessing your son's French will never be as good as it will be growing up in France. And you also didn't mention the huge benefits of being exposed to numerous cultures within Europe.
That’s a good point and after the fact I wanted to raise that as a pro, but also the difficulty of parenting in a second language I’m very mediocre at. But absolutely re: different cultures!
I loved reading this as our daughter and pacsé, both of whom grew up in the countryside down here in Aveyron, are going to have a Paris-born baby in June! I'll share the article with her!
Surprised you haven't touched on all the amazing courses and support given by the marie/government... Or maybe you haven't got to the point of ballet lessons lead by a former head dancer of the opera de Paris for 270 euro a year or the fact childcare is less than 600 euro a month, for a full time nanny.
Plenty more for y'all to enjoy in the burbs! Having observed my brothers and sisters struggles back in the UK, I'm convinced being a parent in Paris is far better than elsewhere. Happy to see you are too

Mine are now in primary, but this brought back those lovely baby memories! (P.s. we threw in the towel after the 2nd, moved to the burbs 😅)

Ah non, haven’t had the chance to enjoy those yet. But the affordable childcare, definitely.
